Unidentified human remains were found washed ashore on the southeast side of Alcatraz Island. An unnamed witness who found the body explained to us "I normally sail but never approach the island as it's illegal to do so until today when I saw what looked like a body with some ragged clothing. As I got closer I saw it was a skeleton and what looked like old timey prison clothes. I quickly backed off and notified the authorities."
By the time the Coast Guard and State Police made their way to the island, they body was gone. They chastised the man who reported the incident until he pulled out his phone and showed them a photo he took about 20 feet from shore. The photo was grainy and it was not too clear but unmistakably what appeared to be a body or skeleton with clothes.
"It's appears to be a prank, most likely from local fisherman trying to lure unexpecting boaters onto the island", said state officials.
What the officials didn't say, and is lore known to all the local fisherman is that this is not the first time the body washed ashore and was witnessed. Nine years earlier a pair of speed boats were out water skiing near the island as one waived to the other pointing out the body. The one boat approached and three people got off and spoke to their friend still off shore on the other boat using their cell phone and described the skeleton with greenish bones, a faded and torn black and white prison outfit whose numbers were mostly illegible but was read over the phone to end with a 41. The second boat turned to head toward a nearby Coast Guard boat but by the time they returned to the island the body was once again missing.
This is where the story told amongst the fishing community becomes legend. While it wasn't reported by any news service outside a mention of a local boating accident. What the coast guard found were three dead bodies on the beach. The bodies were all identified as those people from the first boat. The coroner marked their deaths as fatal drowning, but what was included in the report but never seen outside of certain special agencies was that they all were suffering from radiation sickness. The friend who reported the now missing body was held in a special federal prison for 6 years without trial. When he finally was released, he said nothing of the incident and moved to Alaska to "be alone".
Other eyewitnesses have come forward with similar stories since 1960, but there were other stories from before then about bodies regularly washing ashore. Some of them wore dated outfits seemingly from the 1940s while others wore strange a futuristic clothes and carried electronic equipment the likes had never been seen before nor since. All the bodies including those that needed to be exhumed and tested later had the same telltale signs of radiation poisoning. Specifically on the bodies with strange clothing, their dental work was examined and found to have dental work done whose procedures are common today but non-existent pre-1960. Some of the materials used in other dental work and joint replacements remain unusual and unidentifiable.
We are not encouraging adventurers to pursue this mystery, in fact we are posting this as a warning. Stay away from decaying forms washed up on the beaches of Alcatraz Island. If you do approach, remember that the radiation was not the actual cause of death of those three people who last encountered the body. Something else, something more mysterious passed through from the past, present or future to erase them.
